USC adds Georgetown linebacker GianCarlo Rufo in transfer portal

USC’s 2026 football roster is mostly set. However, the Trojans are still not entirely done yet, with a few late transfer portal additions. Recently, USC landed former Georgetown linebacker GianCarlo Rufo.

Rufo spent the past three seasons at Georgetown. This past season with the Hoyas, he recorded 75 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one pass defended. He earned second team All-Patriot League honors, and was voted as a team captain.

Per Chris Hummer of 247Sports, Rufo visited USC the first weekend of February. Clearly, he was impressed with the Trojans’ pitch, as he committed not long after.

Rufo is just the tenth scholarship transfer portal addition that USC has brought in this offseason. That would be by far the fewest the Trojans have had under head coach Lincoln Riley—in each of Riley’s first four years, USC added at least 15 players through the portal.

It seems as though the Trojans’ strategy this offseason has been to lean more heavily on high school recruiting than the transfer portal. Only time will tell if that strategy will pay off or not.
