Bagnaia pips Marquez to French Grand Prix pole

Le Mans, France: Italian Francesco Bagnaia produced a brilliant lap to edge out Marc Marquez for pole position at the French Grand Prix on Saturday, as MotoGP championship leader Marco Bezzecchi qualified third.

Bagnaia posted a time of one minute and 29.634 seconds to beat his Ducati teammate Marc Marquez by 0.012 secs and secure his first pole since Malaysia last year.

"It's absolutely fantastic," said Bagnaia. "This season I've been struggling in qualifying, but since the start of the weekend, we've been working better and we've found something." lebandit.lat

Two-time world champion Bagnaia has endured a tough start to the season, failing to finish two of the four races so far.

Aprilia's Bezzecchi completed the front row, just another 0.011 secs slower than Marc Marquez.

Bezzecchi's run of five consecutive MotoGP wins was ended last month by Alex Marquez in Spain.

Reigning champion Marc Marquez has also crashed out twice this campaign and is 44 points behind Bezzecchi in fifth in the riders' standings.

The 33-year-old, who ended a six-year wait for his seventh MotoGP world title last season, posted a track record in the first qualifying session after missing out on the top 10 in Friday's practice.

"I didn't understand why I was so fast in Q1," he said.

"What's a shame is that I can't seem to be consistent. I really need to work on understanding things in the coming weeks to improve and become more consistent.

"Being on the front row is still a great surprise."

Jorge Martin, who is 11 points behind Bezzecchi in second place in the championship, could only qualify in eighth spot.

The weekend's racing continues later Saturday with the sprint, before Sunday's main race.

Paris, France: Kylian Mbappe trained on Friday after recovering from a hamstring injury ahead of the Clasico against Barcelona, with Aurelien Tchouameni also involved following his bust-up with teammate Federico Valverde.

Top goalscorer Mbappe had been sidelined for two weeks but Real said the French striker completed part of the group session two days before their trip to Barcelona.

Tchouameni also took part in the training the day after his altercation with Valverde resulted in the latter reportedly needing stitches.

The team confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against both players after the training ground clash, one of a spate of such incidents.

Tensions are high at Real with the prospect of a second consecutive season without a major trophy.

Leading by 11 points, Barcelona only need a draw in the Clasico to be crowned Spanish champions again.

كما شهد سباق 400 متر تتويج محمد موسى لاعب العربي بالمركز الأول بزمن 48.77 ثانية، في حين فاز محمد وحيد لاعب العربي بسباق 1500 متر بعدما سجل زمناً بلغ 3:43.29 دقيقة، ليواصل العربي حضوره القوي في المنافسات.
وفي مسابقة رمي الرمح، خطف مصطفى رأفت لاعب الأهلي المركز الأول بتحقيقه مسافة بلغت 69.63 متر، متقدماً بفارق بسيط على لاعب الريان طه يحيى.
وقام عيسى عبدالله الحرمي أمين السر العام للاتحاد القطري لألعاب القوى بتتويج الفائزين، كما سلم كأس البطولة إلى محمد جاسم الكواري نائب رئيس العربي، ومحمد العامري رئيس الجهاز ، وذلك بحضور طلال منصور أمين السر المساعد، والدكتور فراس فوزي الخبير الفني للاتحاد.

قاد البديل ميزيان سواريس البالغ 16 عاما لنس إلى فوز ثمين على نانت 1-0، الجمعة، ضمن المرحلة الـ 33 من الدوري الفرنسي لكرة القدم، ضامنا من خلاله تأهله المباشر إلى دوري أبطال أوروبا، فيما تأكد هبوط نانت إلى الدرجة الثانية.

ورغم أن ميزانية لنس لا تتجاوز عُشر ميزانية سان جرمان، فإنه لا يزال يملك فرصة المنافسة على اللقب، إذ يتأخر بفارق ثلاث نقاط فقط عن فريق العاصمة الفرنسية إلا أن الاخير يملك مباراة مؤجلة، على أن يلتقي الفريقان أيضا في 13 الجاري.

وصمد نانت لفترات طويلة أمام ضغط لنس بفضل تألق حارسه البرتغالي أنتوني لوبيش الذي تصدى لسلسلة من الفرص، فيما أُلغي ثلاثة أهداف للفريق المضيف بداعي التسلل أو لمس الكرة باليد.

وبات نانت، بطل فرنسا عام 2001، متأكدا من إنهاء الموسم ضمن المركزين الأخيرين، ليهبط من دوري الأضواء للمرة الثالثة منذ تتويجه باللقب.

ويلعب سان جرمان أمام بريست على أرضه الأحد.

Mohamed Salah said the former Liverpool front three knew how to decide games during their peak years together.

Mohamed Salah said he, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino reached a stage at Liverpool when they knew what would happen once one of them received the ball.

In his comments, he described the chemistry the trio enjoyed at Anfield. “I don’t want to sound arrogant, but there was a period of time we [knew] that when we got to the game, which one of us [was] going to score. We were very good for the team and for the club as well,” Salah said.

The Egyptian added that his competitive relationship with Mane drove both players forward. “I think it was healthy for us, and it was necessary.”

“Jurgen Klopp also let us grow and challenge each other, and it was very helpful for the team,” he said.

The comments came as Salah prepares to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season. In March, the Egyptian forward announced that he had reached an agreement to end his nine-year spell at Anfield.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and has scored 257 goals and made 122 assists in 440 appearances. In the process, he has helped the Reds win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Community Shield.
