Friendly Soul, Erdenali shine at Qatar Arc Trials

Friendly Soul lands second Gr.1 in Qatar Prix Vermeille

Friendly Soul, the five-year-old mare, recorded the second Gr.1 victory of her career by winning the Gr.1 Qatar Prix Vermeille over 2400m.

The race was reserved for three-year-old and older fillies and mares and attracted a strong field of thirteen runners.

Trained by John & Thady Gosden, ridden by James Doyle, and owned by George Strawbridge, Friendly Soul showed plenty of courage to make all and hold on strongly in the closing stages.

Friendly Soul broke very well and quickly found herself in front, with no other runner showing much interest in taking the lead.

QREC Chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah awarded the trophies to the connections of Erdenali.

She raced a little keen in the early stages, while Tattycoram settled in second position behind her.

At the end of the back straight, Composing moved up on the outside of Friendly Soul and began to put pressure on the leader. In the false straight, the two mares suddenly increased the pace and quickly pulled around four to five lengths clear of the rest of the field, with Tattycoram in third and Sparan Nua in fourth.

Entering the final straight, Composing began to weaken, leaving Friendly Soul alone in front and still clear of the rest. Inside the final 300m, she continued to hold a good advantage, while Pink Panthera started to make strong progress from behind.

Pink Panthera continued to close in the final stages, but Friendly Soul showed a very good attitude and kept finding enough under pressure to hold off her rivals. She eventually won by three-quarters of a length, with Pink Panthera finishing second and Sunly taking third.

Erdenali excels in Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp

Erdenali, the progressive three-year-old gelding, recorded the biggest success of his young career by winning the Gr.1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over 1600m.

Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, ridden by Mickael Barzalona, and owned and bred by Aga Khan Studs SC, the homebred colt showed once again the quality he had displayed from the start of his career.

Erdenali broke well and was soon settled in midfield, just behind the favourite Gstaad. The race was led by Dorset and the very keen Opera Ballo, who both helped set a strong tempo.

Entering the false straight, the two leaders increased the pace again and opened up a gap of around two lengths. Erdenali, meanwhile, was travelling very strongly in fifth position, still behind Gstaad.

As most of his rivals began to come under pressure approaching the final straight, Erdenali was still travelling comfortably. With a few lengths to make up on the leaders, Mickael Barzalona began to ask him for an effort and he quickly moved into third position, while Ten Bob Tony challenged him on the outside.

Inside the final 200m, Erdenali went past Opera Ballo, but Ten Bob Tony was still right alongside him and continued to challenge strongly.

However, inside the final 100m, Erdenali found something extra and pulled away again to win by one and a quarter lengths. Ten Bob Tony finished second, while Gstaad took third.

H M Alchahine dominates Qatar Cup – Prix Dragon

H M Alchahine, the six-year-old Purebred Arabian, recorded another top-level success by winning the Gr.1 (PA) Qatar Cup – Prix Dragon over 2000m.

Trained by Mme Jean-François Bernard, ridden by Cristian Demuro, and owned by Mr Helal Alalawi, HM Alchahine produced a very easy performance to register the sixth Gr.1 (PA) victory of his career.Jockey Mickael Barzalona and Erdenali in action during the Gr.1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp race.

HM Alchahine broke well but was soon steadied by Cristian Demuro and settled in second-last position, just behind Al Riffaa. Shaihaan led the field at a slow pace, and the positions remained mostly unchanged through the first part of the race.

Inside the final 300m, he was still cruising and had yet to be seriously asked, while Shayeg and Geneva began to fight for the minor places.

HM Alchahine soon went clear and was never in danger. Cristian Demuro only needed to ride him hands and heels inside the final 100m as he came home an easy four-length winner. Geneva stayed on to finish second, while Shayeg took third.

Meanwhile, Aga Khan Studs enjoyed a memorable afternoon, completing a treble on the card after earlier success with Erdenali, before Varandir landed the Gr.2 Qatar Prix Niel and Daryz won the Gr.2 Qatar Prix Foy.

تتوزع منافسات الكبار للرجال على مدار الموسم المحلي وفق المواعيد المقررة بدقة لضمان انسيابية المنافسات؛ حيث تنطلق منافسات القسم الأول من الدوري العام للرجال يوم الإثنين 12 أكتوبرالقادم ، يليه انطلاق القسم الأول من كأس الاتحاد للرجال يوم الإثنين 7 ديسمبر 2026، وتتواصل المسابقات الكبرى في شهر أبريل من العام المقبل 2027 بإقامة مباريات نصف النهائي لبطولة كأس قطر للرجال يوم الخميس 1 أبريل 2027، بالتزامن مع انطلاق مرحلة التصفيات لبطولة كأس الأمير للرجال في اليوم ذاته لتشكل مسك الختام للمنافسات المحلية.

New York: American teen Iva Jovic outlasted Philippines star Alexandra Eala in an epic three-hour showdown on Saturday to reach the fourth round of the US Open, where fourth seed Coco Gauff awaits.

Jovic, the 14th seed, won five of the last six games for a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 triumph over 17th-seed Eala after three hours and three minutes.

"That felt like a marathon and I felt like I lost my sanity five times over to win that match," Jovic said. "But it's really worth it for this feeling."

Two of the top rising stars of women's tennis made their Arthur Ashe Stadium debut a memorable battle that featured 17 service breaks in 33 games.

Jovic, 18 and Eala, 21, are friends and sometime doubles partners, knowing well each other's skills and style. That helped produce seven service breaks in the first 11 games.

"I'm usually not one that shows that many emotions but this one really meant a lot to me. It's everything to have another match here at the US Open," said Jovic.

That match will be against compatriot Gauff, the 2023 US Open and 2025 French Open champion.

"I'm going to be more than happy to just bring this fight and this energy and whatever happens I can leave with my head high," Jovic said.

Jovic broke four times to win the first set but was broken three times by left-hander Eala to drop the second.

Eala broke Jovic in the first game of the third set when the American netted a backhand.

"I just tried to take my time in those moments and feel the energy and feel the crowd -- even though they weren't always rooting for me," Jovic said.

Jovic smacked a forehand winner to break Eala in the fourth game and level the set, but the American double-faulted away a break in the fifth.

Jovic broke back to 4-4 with a backhand service return winner and broke again in the last game, smacking a forehand winner to reach match point and taking the victory when Eala netted a forehand.

Jovic, a quarter-finalist at this year's Australian Open, won her first WTA title last year in Guadalajara at age 17.

في مواجهة بين فريقين خرجا منتصرين من المرحلتين الأوليين، حسم أرسنال حامل اللقب لقاء الديربي أمام جاره وضيفه تشلسي بعدما حول تخلفه إلى فوز 2-1 الأحد في الدوري الإنكليزي الممتاز لكرة القدم.

وبتأكيده تفوقه على جاره الذي لم يفز على “المدفعجية” في 12 مباراة متتالية في كافة المسابقات منذ اسقاطه في ستاد الإمارات بهدفين نظيفين في 22 آب/أغسطس 2021 ضمن الدوري الممتاز، بقي أرسنال ووصيفه مانشستر سيتي الفريقين الوحيدين بالعلامة الكاملة هذا الموسم.

وتحضر فريق المدرب الإسباني ميكل أرتيتا بأفضل طريقة لبداية مشواره في دوري أبطال أوروبا حيث يحلّ الأربعاء ضيفا على نابولي الإيطالي، فيما مني تشلسي بهزيمته الأولى بقيادة مدربه الجديد الإسباني الآخر شابي ألونسو.

وكانت البداية مثالية لتشلسي، إذ منحه الوافد الجديد مورغان روجرز التقدم منذ الدقيقة الثانية إثر ركلة حرة أحدثت ارباك في منطقة جزاء “المدفعجية”، لتصل الكرة إلى لاعب أستون فيلا السابق الذي أطلقها “على الطائر” من مسافة بعيدة إلى يمين الحارس الإسباني دافيد رايا.

واعتقد أرسنال أنه أدرك التعادل إثر ركلة حرة أيضا عبر الإيطالي ريكاردو كالافيوري بعد محاولة من البرازيلي غابريال تألق الحارس الأرجنتيني إيميليانو مارتينيس في صدها لتصل الكرة إلى إيزري كونسا الذي سددها في القائم الأيمن.

لكن “في أيه آر” تدخل وألغى هدف الإيطالي بعدما تبين أن كونسا كان متسللا ( 12).

وكان بوكايو ساكا قريبا من تعويض هذه الفرصة بتسديدة من زاوية صعبة جدا، لكن الوافد الجديد مارتينيس تألق في الدفاع عن مرماه (18).

وبعد محاولة بعيدة من ريس جيمس تألق رايا في صدها (23)، رد أرسنال بإدراكه التعادل في الدقيقة 25 عبر الألماني كاي هافيرتس الذي توغل من الجهة اليمنى قبل أن يسدد الكرة أرضية من مشارف منطقة الجزاء في الشباك بعدما وصل مارتينيس إلى الكرة من دون أن يتمكن من صدها.

وكاد تشلسي أن يدخل الشوط الثاني وهو في المقدمة مجددا، لكن الحظ عاند البرتغالي بيدرو نيتو بعدما ارتدت تسديدته من أسفل القائم الأيمن (3+45).

ومع انطلاقة الشوط الثاني، ضرب أرسنال بتسجيله هدف التقدم عبر النروجي مارتن أوديغارد بعد لعبة جماعية وسلسلة من التمريرات، آخرها لليوناني كريستوس تزوليس من الجهة اليسرى وصلت إلى هافيرتس الذي ترك الكرة بذكاء تمر إلى أوديغارد، فتقدم بها الأخير في منطقة الجزاء قبل أن يسددها في الشباك (50).

وكان أرسنال قريبا من هدف ثالث بعد تمويه آخر من هافيرتس، لكن مارتينيس تألق في وجه ساكا(69)، ثم انتقل الخطر إلى الجهة المقابلة حيث كان رايا في المرصاد لتسديدة البديل البرازيلي إستيفاو (89).

نهاية مجنونة

على ملعب “هيل ديكسون ستاديوم” وفي مباراة كانت نهايتها مجنونة، اعتقد البديل السلوفيني بنيامين شيشكو أنه أهدى فريقه مانشستر يونايتد فوزه الثاني، لكن إيفرتون أنقذ نقطة على أرضه بإدراكه التعادل 2-2 في الوقت القاتل عبر بديل أيضا هو الوافد الجديد أينسلي مايتلاند-نايلز.

وبدأ يونايتد الذي أنهى الموسم الماضي ثالثا وعاد بالتالي للمشاركة في دوري الأبطال، مشواره بخسارة على أرض هال سيتي لكنه حول تخلفه في المرحلة الثانية أمام إيبسويتش تاون إلى فوز كبير 5-2.

واعتقد أنه حقق فوز الثاني حين رد شيشكو على هدف التعادل الذي سجله تايريك جورج في الدقيقة 83، بمنح الضيوف التقدم في الدقيقة 88، إلا أن مايتلاند-نايلز أطلق كرة رائعة من خارج المنطقة وأنقذ “توفيز” من هزيمتهم الأولى.

وقال مايتلاند-نايلز لشبكة “سكاي سبورتس” البريطانية “شعرنا وكأننا حققنا الفوز. قاتلنا بقوة وتمكنا في النهاية من الخروج بنقطة. الجماهير كانت إلى جانبنا، وكنا نقاتل حتى اللحظة الأخيرة، ولهذا تحقق مثل هذه النتائج”.

وعن هدفه قال “إنه شعور رائع. الجميع يمني النفس ببداية مماثلة، ولحسن الحظ فعلت ذلك. وصلت الكرة إليّ على مشارف منطقة الجزاء، فسددتها بقوة، وانتهى بها الأمر في الزاوية العليا، وأنا سعيد بذلك”.

وبعد انتهاء الشوط الأول بالتعادل السلبي رغم بعض الفرص أبرزها لقائد يونايتد البرتغالي برونو فرنانديش الذي عانده الحظ بعدما ارتدت تسديدته من العارضة (8)، ضرب الضيوف في مستهل الثاني وافتتحوا التسجيل من تسديدة جميلة للكاميروني براين مبومو أطلقها من مشارف منطقة الجزاء إلى الزاوية اليمنى الأرضية لمرمى جوردان بيكفورد (46).

وبقيت النتيجة على حالها رغم بعض المحاولات الخجولة من الفريقين، وذلك حتى الدقيقة 83 عندما أطلق تايريك جورج كرة صاروخية رائعة في المرمى.

لكن “الشياطين الحمر” لم يستسلموا وبتمريرة من فرنانديش إلى لوك شو، لعب الأخير كرة عرضية وصلت إلى البديل شيشكو الذي حولها برأسه في شباك جوردان بيكفورد (88).

وعندما كان فريق المدرب مايكل كاريك يتحضر للاحتفال بالفوز، خطف مايتلاند-نايلز الذي دخل في الدقيقة 77، التعادل بتسديدة رائعة من مشارف المنطقة إلى الزاوية اليمنى العليا (6+90)، محققا بذلك أفضل بداية له مع فريقه الجديد الذي انتقل إليه في اليوم الأخير من فترة الانتقالات الصيفية قادما من ليون الفرنسي.
