Former Steelers DB Mike Wagner dies at 76

Mike Wagner, a cornerstone of the Steelers' Steel Curtain and a four‑time Super Bowl champion, died at 76.

Mike Wagner, drafted in the 11th round of the 1971 NFL Draft, became a starting safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers and recorded 36 interceptions over 10 seasons. He was instrumental in the team’s first two Super Bowl victories, intercepting Fran Tarkenton in Super Bowl IX and Dallas Cowboys’ Drew Pearson in Super Bowl X.

The Steelers announced Wagner’s death on Wednesday, noting he was 76. Owner Art Rooney II praised his toughness, consistency and team‑first mentality, calling him a champion and a proud member of the Steelers family.
