Projecting Colts depth chart on defense after 2026 NFL draft

After projecting the positional depth charts on offense for the Indianapolis Colts following the 2026 NFL draft, let's jump over to the defensive side of the ball.

As noted in the previous article, perhaps GM Chris Ballard makes a veteran addition or two in free agency still, but the major roster construction points of the offseason are now behind us. hilogame.news

So with the dust having settled, let's dive into where things stand on defense.

**Please note that reported UDFA signings are included but have not yet been confirmed by the Colts.

Colts' defensive end depth chart

  • Laiatu Latu
  • JT Tuimoloau
  • Arden Key
  • Micheal Clemons
  • George Gumbs Jr.
  • Caden Curry
  • Durell Nchami
  • Mitchell Melton, Virginia**

Did the Colts add enough pass rush juice to pair with Laiatu Latu this offseason? That remains to be seen, but Chris Ballard did add quite a bit of competition, which should help elevate competition and raise the floor of this unit.

Colts' defensive tackle depth chart

  • DeForest Buckner
  • Grover Stewart
  • Colby Wooden
  • Adetomiwa Adebawore
  • Jerry Tillery
  • Derrick Nnadi
  • Tim Smith
  • Cam Bell**

The depth of this unit was reshaped this offseason. Wooden adds versatility to the defensive front, while Tiller has been more of a pass rush presence in his career, and Nnadi a run-stuffer.

Colts linebacker depth chart

  • Akeem Davis-Gaither
  • CJ Allen
  • Bryce Boettcher
  • Jaylon Carlies
  • Austin Ajiake
  • Devin Versuk
  • John Bullock
  • Wes Weeks**
  • Tahj Chambers**

This unit looks a lot better following the NFL draft -- although a veteran addition to boost the depth still wouldn't be a bad idea. Allen will take over as the MIKE linebacker, while Davis-Gaither and Boettcher should compete for the WILL role.

Colts cornerback depth chart

  • Sauce Gardner
  • Charvarius Ward
  • Kenny Moore
  • Justin Walley
  • Cam Taylor-Britt
  • Mekhi Blackmon
  • Cameron Mitchell
  • Jaylon Jones
  • Johnathan Edwards
  • Robert Carter Jr.
  • Wyett Ekeler

Kenny Moore remains with the team, but the Colts are still attempting to trade him. Justin Walley will then take over at the nickel. Building out the depth of this unit was important after the Colts navigated numerous injuries at cornerback in 2025.

Colts safety depth chart

  • Cam Bynum
  • AJ Haulcy
  • Jonathan Owens
  • Juanyeh Thomas
  • Hunter Wohler
  • Daniel Scott
  • Nasir Adderley
  • Reuben Lowery III
  • Trey Washington
  • Ben Nikkel
  • Austin Brown**

Haulcy adds a versatile and ball-hawking presence to the Colts' secondary. He will compete for the starting role next to Cam Bynum. This position group was reshaped heavily this offseason with five additions made, including undrafted free agency.

Dolphins GM says one draft pick has one area that he needs to improve

After losing Jaylen Waddle via trade, the Miami Dolphins took a pair of receivers in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft. While they selected Chris Bell later on Day 2, Caleb Douglas was the first wideout they took at pick No. 75.

Douglas is different than any recent receiver the Dolphins have had. Standing at 6-foot-4 and running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, Douglas brings a good mix of size and speed. The intangibles are there, but can Douglas figure out everything else?

Concerns about his catching ability and route running can't be overlooked. However, the Dolphins believe in his athleticism and untapped potential.

Douglas played collegiately at both the University of Florida and Texas Tech. Across his career, he appeared in 40 games and totaled 135 receptions for 2,031 yards and 16 touchdowns. He began at Florida, but with little success, he transferred after his sophomore year.

At Texas Tech from 2024–25, he had his most productive seasons, including about 60 catches for 877 yards and six touchdowns in 2024 and 54 catches for 846 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. Overall, he developed into a steady deep-threat receiver, averaging around 15 yards per catch over his college career.

General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan believes Douglas could get stronger to improve his ability to get off the press and make more contested catches.

"He's got a long, rangy body. He's got some very raw athleticism," Sullivan said of Douglas. "I think what you'll see for a tall, long-limbed receiver, long legs, long arms, he can really drop his weight. He's got great flexibility. He's got good athleticism and ball skills to adjust the ball in the air.

"He's got to get stronger. If you were going to try to knock him on something, he's got to get stronger, be able to get off press and make some of the contested balls, but if you just said, hey, what's one thing that jumps out? I thought you could really see it at his pro day and his workout, he's pretty sudden and flexible to be able to drop his weight and snap down getting in and out of breaks for a long limb athlete."

Sullivan has given Douglas the blueprint to find himself on the field this upcoming season. The wideout is currently 206 pounds, and if Douglas puts up around 9-14 pounds of muscle, Sullivan will feel more confident in his abilities.

There is no doubt that Douglas is a project, but with more time in the gym and continued work on his craft, Sullivan envisions Douglas becoming a third-down target for Malik Willis.

Exiles have 'easier game' as five clubs fight for survival

Iwan Roberts says Newport County have the kindest fixture of all the sides in the League Two relegation scrap as they prepare for Saturday's season-defining trip to Barrow (15:00 BST).

The Exiles are one of five teams fighting to stay up heading into the last weekend of a difficult campaign.

They take on bottom-club Barrow, who are three points adrift of Harrogate - who are 23rd - and Crawley - in 22nd - and realistically look all but down because of their inferior goal difference.

Newport, in 21st, and 20th-placed Tranmere are a point better off than Harrogate and Crawley.

And former Wales striker Roberts says Christian Fuchs' men have an "easier game" than their relegation rivals.

"Crawley have got to go Salford, who are fourth and one point off automatic promotion," Roberts told this week's Feast of Football podcast.

"Barnet go to Harrogate. Barnet are ninth. They are three points off the play-offs and have a better goal difference than Chesterfield [in seventh]. Barnet have won 19 points from their last seven games.

"Tranmere are not out of it. They host Grimsby - you have got the worst defence [in the division] in Tranmere against the second top scorers in Grimsby. Grimsby are sixth and not guaranteed a play-off place, so they have everything to play for.

"Barrow are on 36 points and 12 goals worse off than Crawley in goal difference. They are not getting out of it. So Newport have got the easier game, but the pressure is still on them."

Victory at Barrow would guarantee Newport's survival, though they might not need to win - or even draw - if other results go their way.

The Welsh club claimed a second victory in their past three games as they overcame Oldham Athletic in dramatic fashion last weekend, but they have not managed back-to-back league wins in 2025-26.

"What a good time to do it [this would be]," Roberts added.

MSU football locks in official visit with priority in-state 4-star TE prospect

Michigan State has locked in an official visit with one of the top tight ends in the 2027 class.

Allen Trieu of On3 reported on Thursday that Michigan State has scheduled an official visit with in-state tight end prospect Anthony Cartwright. This announcement of an upcoming official visit to Michigan State comes shortly after he announced his five finalists, who are Michigan State, Michigan, Miami (FL), LSU and Oregon.

According to 247Sports, Cartwright will visit Michigan State on May 29. He is also expected to visit Miami (FL) on June 5 and Oregon on June 19. These official visits will all come before his announced commitment date of June 28.

Cartwright is listed as a four-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 89.33 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 20 tight end and No. 8 player from Michigan in the 2027 class. Additionally, he is ranked as the No. 389 overall prospect in the class.

Michigan State extended an offer to Cartwright nearly three years ago in October of 2023. The Spartans are one of nearly 40 schools to offer him.

With all of Cartwright's finalists being major national programs, it was essential for the Spartans to get him on campus for an official visit to have any shot at landing his commitment. This is a positive sign for the Spartans and gives them the first crack during official visit season to make a strong impression with Cartwright.
