Lebanon High School remembered basketball player Jayden Bailey during their Feb. 21 playoff game against Green Hill, two days after the 17-year-old died from cancer. A tribute table featured Bailey's photo with a basketball, visible scar from his recent arm amputation, and a QR code linking to a GoFundMe page for his family. Senior Marques Anglin scored 18 points in the 46-44 victory, saying he felt Bailey's presence during the game.
Coach Jim McDowell received news of Bailey's death around 4 p.m. on game day, noting the player's dedication despite battling osteosarcoma since June 2022, an arm amputation in August, and a stomach cancer diagnosis in October. 'He was a hooper, man, you hear me?' McDowell said. 'He loved basketball.' Bailey had returned to the team after missing a season due to his initial cancer diagnosis, with teammates noting his positive attitude throughout his battle.
