Fiji, Palau and Tuvalu are preparing to host world leaders and climate change ministers in the lead-up to COP31. The Pacific Island nations aim to highlight their existential battle with climate change and encourage larger countries to accelerate cuts to emissions.
The initiative comes as small island nations face increasing threats from rising sea levels and extreme weather events, despite contributing minimally to global emissions. They hope to leverage their position as frontline climate victims to pressure industrialized nations into more ambitious climate action.
