Wiebes wins Tour de France Femmes stage 2

Lorena Wiebes sprinted to victory in stage two of the Tour de France Femmes, maintaining her yellow jersey after Riejanne Markus' breakaway attempt was denied in the final kilometer.

Wiebes claimed the win in Geneva after a competitive stage that saw several attacks, including by Alison Jackson and green jersey holder Idoia Eraso. The race moved into hilly terrain with riders tackling the first of five climbs, the Côte de Chexbres (3.2km at 5.6% gradient). afnews.co.za

Markus made a notable breakaway bid, but it was thwarted in the final kilometer, allowing Wiebes to secure the stage victory and strengthen her position in the general classification.
