Misbah-ul-Haq resigns from Pakistan's selection committee ahead of third Tesr

Former cricketer Misbah-ul-Haq has offered his resignation from Pakistan's men's national selection committee. The move came after the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) decision to make major changes to the Test squad and coaching staff, according to Cricinfo.

The PCB is yet to accept his resignation, and the former cricketer has also decided to step down from his role as a batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Misbah, who retired as Pakistan's most successful Test captain in 2017, has held several positions within the PCB over the years. He was appointed head coach and chief selector in 2019, before stepping down as chief selector in October 2020 to focus on his coaching responsibilities. He later resigned as head coach in 2021.

Recently, Pakistan suffered a loss by 194 runs against England at the Lord's Cricket Ground in the City of Westminster. Ahead of the third match against the "Three Lions", the PCB has released seven players from the Test squad. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul were also snubbed from their roles as head coach and bowling coach, respectively.

Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad were among the players released from the squad.

The third Test match between Pakistan and England is scheduled to kick off from September 9 at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.

In the ongoing three-match Test series, the hosts have already taken a lead by 2-0. They will look to continue on their winning momentum and register a whitewash against Pakistan. On the other hand, the visitors will be eager to secure a win and finish the series on a positive note, despite poor performances.
