It doesn’t appear Shane Bieber will be ready for game action anytime soon.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Saturday that there are no immediate plans for Bieber to start throwing off the mound, and he will instead continue to throw off flat ground from 120 feet.
The plan all along was for Bieber to have a slower ramp-up this spring after the Blue Jays announced he was dealing with arm fatigue in early February.
Surgery was not required, and Bieber is expected to pitch early this season.
Bieber underwent an MRI during the off-season that showed “nothing was wrong, just forearm fatigue,” Schneider said. He returned from Tommy John surgery last August and helped the Blue Jays reach the World Series.

Watch Blue Jays in spring training on Sportsnet
The Blue Jays begin their ramp up to the 2026 with spring training action in Florida. Sportsnet will broadcast 23 spring training games on TV and Sportsnet+.
The 30-year-old right-hander ended up making seven regular-season starts for Toronto, throwing 40.1 innings while striking out 37 and posting a 3.57 ERA.
In the post-season, Bieber made starts in all three rounds and appeared out of the bullpen in Game 7 of the World Series. He had a 3.86 playoff ERA and struck out 18 batters in 18.2 innings of work.
Bieber picked up his player option to return to the Blue Jays’ rotation, which was further reinforced by the additions of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce this off-season, as well as the recent reunion with Max Scherzer.
