Wizards’ Trae Young gets ejected before playing a single game

Though he hasn’t played a game yet for his new team, Trae Young has already been ejected from a contest.

While Young’s new Washington Wizards squad was taking on the Houston Rockets Monday, Young, sitting on the bench in street clothes, got up and began arguing with an official about Rockets forward Tari Eason getting away with pushing Wizards rookie guard Jamir Watkins.

Eason’s shove against Watkins was rather violent-looking, so it’s understandable why Young was upset.

Unfortunately, because Young left the bench to stand up for his teammate, NBA rules dictate he must leave the bench area and, essentially, be ejected from the game even if he hasn’t played yet.

Shortly after leaving the game, Young then took to social media for his take on the ejection.

“Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C.,” Young wrote on X. “But I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

Though an odd start to his Wizards career, some liked what the passion they saw from Young.

Young will actually make his Wizards debut Thursday against the Utah Jazz.

The 27-year-old last played on Dec. 27 while with the Atlanta Hawks and has been dealing with an MCL sprain and a thigh bruise.

He was traded on Jan. 9 in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.

In 10 games played this season, the four-time all-star is averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists per game on 41.5 per cent shooting from the floor and 30.5 per cent from three-point range.

Young is no stranger to being ejected from games. Last season, he was infamously ejected from a play-in game with the Orlando Magic for “making a mockery of the game.”

Monday night was certainly the first time he had ever been ejected from a game he didn’t even play in, however.
