Robert Sanchez’s improved form this season led lots of people to consider whether perhaps Chelsea had been right all along, and that the Spaniard had the potential to be a really solid number one.
Well we never bought it, and we still don’t. Of course he’s been much better this season, but if we’re aiming to be a Champions League and Premier League winner, we must do better. Alex Crook agreed, writing the following on his Twitter.

“Even given Robert Sanchez’s capability to throw in a clanger, his goalkeeping for Arsenal’s winner in Sunday’s London derby triumph over Chelsea was bordering on embarrassing,” Crook wrote.
“It was the latest example of Chelsea needing to invest in a new number one this summer if they harbour any serious ambitions of challenging for league titles and Champions League.”
He always felt like a stopgap option – that’s what you get when you sign a Brighton backup. The problem is, we’ve barely made an effort to replace him since then. We fear the sporting directors aren’t going to give up on this one soon, especially after the promising signs of earlier this season.
In other news…
Matt Law’s exclusive last night claimed that Tottenham have put Chelsea co-sporting director Paul Winstanley on their shortlist.
Law also wrote today that Chelsea are “making it clear” to their players that booking for dissent won’t be tolerated anymore.
