The FIA has confirmed that the Qatar round of the 2026 World Endurance Championship will no longer be held on its original dates.
The Qatar 1812KM race had been scheduled for March 26–28 at the Lusail International Circuit in Lusail. Organisers opted to postpone the event while assessing the wider situation affecting the region.
The move means the endurance race will take place later in the season instead of occupying its planned early-year slot.
FIA confirm postponement of Qatar 1812KM race
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile announced the postponement after discussions with the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation.
Officials stressed that the priority remained the safety of all participants and spectators. The governing body released a statement outlining the reasoning behind the decision.
“FIA WEC management has been in constant dialogue with Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) in light of the current and evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East.”
“With the safety and security of competitors, personnel, and fans of the utmost importance, the decision has been taken to delay the event that had been due to take place on 26-28 March.”
Organisers confirmed the race has not been cancelled and will instead be moved to the second half of the championship season. A new date will be announced at a later stage.
Race expected to return later in the championship calendar
The Qatar 1812KM forms part of the FIA World Endurance Championship schedule and is hosted at Lusail International Circuit. The endurance event attracts manufacturers and teams from across the global motorsport scene.
Championship officials said they will continue monitoring developments before confirming the updated timing. Once finalised, the revised date will be communicated to teams and fans.
For the moment, the race remains on the calendar but will no longer take place in March. The FIA reiterated that the event is postponed rather than removed from the season.
What this cancellation could mean for the upcoming F1 season, with several races slated for Middle Eastern countries such as Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Bahrain, remains to be seen.
