Cubs Beat Guardians 8-6, Cabrera Debut, Swanson Homers

Edward Cabrera made a strong debut for the Cubs, striking out six Guardians batters in his first start. Dansby Swanson homered and drove in three runs as Chicago won 8-6.

Cabrera retired all six Guardians batters he faced, striking out three and throwing 20 strikes in 31 pitches. The Cubs bullpen, with Ryan Rolison, Daniel Palencia, Collin Snider and Jacob Webb, allowed only two hits and four strikeouts in relief.

Swanson delivered a two‑run homer in the first inning and added an RBI single in the sixth, driving in three runs. Despite a shaky outing from Porter Hodge, the Cubs rallied in the eighth with a bases‑clearing double by Leonel Espinoza to secure the 8‑6 victory.
