Golfer Andrea Pavan Discharged After Elevator Shaft Fall

Andrea Pavan, 36, was discharged from a South African hospital after a freak accident that sent him falling three stories in an elevator shaft while staying for the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He underwent multiple surgeries on his shoulder and back, including vertebral fracture repairs.

Pavan will remain in South Africa for about five weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the United States. A GoFundMe set up by a former teammate has raised over $81,000 to support his recovery. The Italian‑born golfer, who has two DP World Tour wins, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
