Former Dodgers Buehler Signs with Padres

Buehler, who pitched for the Dodgers from 2017-24, turned down a $20 million offer from Los Angeles after entering free agency. After Tommy John surgery sidelined him for the 2023 season, he joined Boston but was released midway through 2025 after posting a 5.45 ERA. He finished the year with Philadelphia, where he had a 0.66 ERA in three appearances.

The Padres, who have lost several pitchers this offseason, could give Buehler a chance to re-establish himself as a proven MLB starter. Buehler had a 3.27 ERA in 131 appearances with the Dodgers and made two All-Star teams during his time in Los Angeles.

Chasing Gold: Devils Players Highlighted at the Winter Games

Seven New Jersey Devils players are showcasing their talents at the Winter Olympics, representing four different national teams.

Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and Jonas Siegenthaler are representing Switzerland; Jack Hughes is competing for Team USA; Jesper Bratt and Jacob Markstrom are with Team Sweden; and Simon Nemec is playing for Slovakia—all taking the stage in Milano Cortina.

With the Men’s qualification playoffs set to kick off on Tuesday, let’s take a look at how each Devils player has performed so far.

Team Switzerland boasts three Devils on its roster.

Timo Meier has been great for Team Switzerland, earning six points in the tournament and scoring two goals in the opening game.

Devils captain Nico Hischier has earned one assist and is tied for the team's shots on goal with five.

The final player for Team Switzerland is Jonas Siegenthaler, who has taken four shots on goal.

For Team USA, Jack Hughes has three points, two assists, and one goal. The forward is playing alongside a stacked roster, but has played well. Mike Rupp complimented Hughes on his play with Team USA.

“I would argue Jack Hughes has been (Team USA’s) best player,” Rupp said.

Next, we turn to Team Sweden, where Jesper Bratt and Jacob Markstrom are representing the Devils.

Jesper Bratt has earned one assist in three games, although he was benched in the third game against Slovakia.

His teammate, Jacob Markstrom, earned one start for Team Sweden. Markstrom won the game, but allowed a late goal that hurt Sweden’s positioning in their group standings.

The final player is Simon Nemec, who has had a strong offensive performance in the Olympics. Nemec has two assists so far and has the most scoring chances for a defenseman.

The games for Tuesday are set: Germany and France face off at 6:10 am ET, Switzerland and Italy at 6:10 am ET, Czechia and Denmark at 10:40 am, and Sweden and Latvia at 3:10 PM.

With extra gametime, Bayern Munich’s Jonas Urbig could earn World Cup spot with Germany

With Manuel Neuer now set to be sidelined for at least three weeks for Bayern Munich due to a torn muscle fiber in his left calf, Jonas Urbig will be the man in between the posts for the Bundesliga champions for the time being. He came on from the start of the second half in the 3-0 win at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga this past weekend after there was bemusement to see Neuer come out of the tunnel in warmup gear with what looked to be a cup of coffee or tea in his hand.

Immediately after the match, the internal feeling at Bayern was that Neuer’s calf discomfort was nothing serious and his absence from the second half was mostly precautionary, however that was not the case as further assessment revealed.

For Urbig, this is another chance for starting minutes for the backup keeper that Bayern bought last winter to eventually become the long-term replacement for Neuer at the club. The Bremen win was his eighth appearance of the season across all competitions, but he’s now slated for at least another three to four matches while Neuer is sidelined for three weeks including the upcoming Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.

Per information from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), this window of opportunity could very well have implications for Urbig’s potential involvement with the German national team. In addition to Neuer claiming he will stand firm in his decision to stay retired from the national team, the keeper situation has grown complex for Julian Nagelsmann ahead of this summer’s World Cup. Marc-André ter Stegen has unfortunately suffered yet another considerable injury and with Neuer now out of the picture, it was really his time to be the number one keeper after spending so many years as Neuer’s understudy, but now things have changed.

With strong performances while he stands in for Neuer, Urbig could cement his name in the conversation for being in the 26-man roster for the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer as well as further confirming Bayern’s belief that he can eventually take over as the number one at the club. Alexander Nübel, Noah Atubolu and Finn Dahmen are all in the picture, too, but considered to be behind Urbig.
