The Australian champion racehorse Makybe Diva, who won the Melbourne Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2005, died at 26 after a brief bout of colic at her retirement stable near Geelong, outside Melbourne. The mare earned $10 million in prize money during her career.
Owner Tony Santic said the mare was family and that she gave Australia unforgettable moments. Jockey Glen Boss reflected on her legacy, saying she left a huge footprint in Australian racing history.
