Market Absent for Mac Jones

No market has yet emerged for Mac Jones, according to The Athletic, as teams prefer free-agent options over trading for the 49ers backup.

With plenty of free-agent options currently available and more coming as cuts are made, quarterback-needy teams are far more likely to consider players acquired without losing a draft pick. The 49ers signed Jones to a two-year deal last year, giving them full control over his rights for 2026.

Jones is due to make $3.25 million in 2026, but any team trading for him with the idea of making him the starter may want to give him a raise, adding another wrinkle to the situation. For now, teams are looking to the open market first before considering trades for the 2021 first-round pick.
