McNeese State’s Viral Manager Amir Khan Returns After NC State Stint

Amir Khan, the viral manager who led McNeese State’s March run with a boombox, has returned to the Cowboys after a brief stint at NC State. He cited family ties, academic reasons, and a desire to graduate at McNeese.

Khan, who became a national sensation during McNeese’s NCAA Tournament surge, left for NC State but returned after realizing his credits didn’t transfer and wanting to finish his degree. The 23‑5 Cowboys are poised for another March run, and his return has added a familiar energy to the program.

Beyond the spotlight, Khan said he wants to highlight the role of student managers, who often work behind the scenes. “It felt more special being down here,” he told the McNeese Pokecast, noting his lifelong ties to the area.
