Bears Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman has reportedly retired from the NFL at age 27, just one year after signing a lucrative three-year, $42 million contract with the team.

The 27-year-old offensive lineman informed the team of his decision to retire, surprising given his age, contract value, and on-field excellence. Dalman joined the Bears last March after four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, helping propel the team from worst to first in the NFC North.

Dalman left Stanford in 2021 to enter the NFL and has now made the sudden decision to step away from professional football at the peak of his career. The move comes as a shock to the league and the Bears organization.
