Richard Hughes is clearly building for the long term, and a double signing could be enough to accelerate that vision.
Liverpool’s strategy under Hughes has been evident through their summer recruitment. Players like Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi, and Will Wright were all under 23 when they joined, highlighting a focus on youth and potential in order to build a dynasty at Anfield.
The January window continued this trend, with Liverpool securing the signatures of Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Mor Talla Ndiaye, and Jeremy Jacquet, all again under 23.
Hughes’ blueprint is unmistakable. He wants to assemble a squad not just for today, but for sustained success in the future.
That vision is set to continue into the summer transfer window, where attention will turn to bolstering the attack and further shaping the team around young, high-upside talent.
Arne Slot has repeatedly highlighted the need for more pace and dynamism in Liverpool’s attack. What the team currently lacks are true one-on-one specialists - players who can take defenders on, drive at opponents, and inject unpredictability into the final third.
These are the players who can unlock stubborn defences, carve out space for teammates, and make Liverpool’s play more fluid, exciting, and dangerous. In their prime, Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah embodied exactly this type of threat — and it’s clear the Reds are missing that cutting edge right now.
The challenge now falls to Richard Hughes. He needs to identify the next generation capable of filling those boots.
And to make it happen, there’s an opportunity this summer for a double signing that could reshape Liverpool’s attack for years to come, potentially establishing a new era reminiscent of the dominance Mané and Salah brought to Anfield.
But just could these transformative additions be?
First of all Liverpool can inject new speed into the club's attack with Kevin Schade.
The German international has been followed by Liverpool scouts for over five years now and back when he started to emerge as an exciting youngster at Freiburg, the Reds did already consider making a move for him.
Jurgen Klopp was thought to be a particularly big fan of his playing style, but in the end, Liverpool were deterred by the big fee being asked for the youngster.
Schade moved to Brentford and has become one of their key players over the course of the last two seasons. He already has nine goal contributions in the Premier League this season, and is very close to bettering his 13 goal contributions from the previous season.
Predominantly a left-winger, Schade is just entering his prime at 24-years-old, and he is more of an inside-forward or inverted winger rather than a direct winger who likes to hold width.
While he is not as effective in one vs one situations, he does have other skills in his locker that make him an ideal option for Liverpool.

For one, Schade is extremely fast. He's one of the fastest players in the Premier League and he was one of the fastest in the Bundesliga as well.
During his first season in the league, Schade clocked in a top-speed of 36.37 km/h which was faster than the likes of Alphonso Davies and Erling Haaland in the Bundesliga.
Currently, he has clocked in a top-speed of 34.8km/h for Brentford, which is the fastest for the club in the Premier League this season.
Schade's burst of speed makes him a real nuisance. Defensively, he is an asset because he likes to press high and use his speed to smother opposition players as they try to build out from the back.
When he is not on the ball, Schade thrives at running behind defences and running at the channels waiting, using that speed to leave defenders trailing in his wake.
Right now, Liverpool don't really have this kind of profile. Most of the club's wide players like to receive the ball to feet while they are in front of the defensive line rather than behind it.
So Schade could add a new dimension.

Alongside him, Liverpool have also been targeting 19-year-old Yan Diomande. Diomande is a lot more direct of a winger. He loves to drive at his opponents and he creates a lot of chances for his teammates.
He is also excellent in one vs one situations. No one has completed more dribbles per 90 minutes (4.6) than Diomande this season.
At the same time, he is also extremely fast, recording the second fastest top speed in the Bundesliga (36.3km/h) this season.
So you'd have two rapid wingers. One who likes to take players on in Diomande and create space with his take-on ability in tight spaces and another who will create space with his runs off the ball and go in behind defences.
Together they are both still quite young and have a lot of exciting potential.
Their sensational double transfers for Liverpool can set the Reds up for an entire generation with Schade and Diomande becoming Slot's version of Salah and Mane.
Behind them Liverpool would also have Rio Ngumoha, Jeremie Frimpong and Joshua Abe in the years to come, too.
It would be a mouthwatering wealth of options.
